In the winter of 1991, kids from the east and midwest descended on the mountains of Colorado, bringing with them their heavily skate-influenced style of riding. A powerful shift in snowboarding was set in motion. Before, downed trees, stumps, and natural environmental features had all previously been irrelevant – but now they were sought out and the ‘jib’ era of riding was born – and snowboarding’s modern identity began taking shape.
